Sabbath School Weekly Summary: Lesson 13

THE RETURN OF OUR LORD
June 23rd – 29th, 2018

MEMORY TEXT: “For as the lightning cometh out of the east, and shineth even unto the west; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.” Matthew 24:27

SABBATH AFTERNOON: Our Creator, Father and God will return to us in the end (John 1:1-3). According to 1 Cor. 15:52 not only will it be sudden but visible to all and the rewards of redemption or condemnation will be assigned in the end.

SUNDAY: The theme of the second coming of Jesus is evidenced in both Old and New Testament scripture. A fuller appreciation of the plan of salvation is amplified in the light of the crucified and risen Savior. The promises of the Second Coming will be dreaded by the devil and his followers but bring joy and tribulation to the children of God.

MONDAY: Many cultures and doctrine hold fast to the falacy that the Messiah would come and make them great over Earthly kingdoms. Daniel 2 speaks to the rise and fall of four great world empires and many nations and leaders seem to hold the view that they will bring about eternal greatness. But scripture is clear that this old corrupted Earth will destroyed and replaced with a new one that will never be tainted and will last forever.

TUESDAY: Paul choose not to have a myopic view of the his Earthly journey including his suffering. The reference to Jesus coming into the world to save sinners in 1 Tim.1:15 reflects his faith in the assurances of the promise of the Second Coming.

WEDNESDAY: While many have varying views on Christ’s return, it is clear from scripture that it will not be hidden or quiet. The return of our Saviour and Redeemer Jesus will be such a climatic end to the world as we know it. When it happens, everyone will know it, too. What Christ’s redemptive plan accomplished for us at the first coming will be made perfectly clear at the second.

THURSDAY: One of the most profound statements that Jesus made while on Earth spoke to his power over all, even death. “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live” (John 11:25). Leaves nothing to the imagination and is exemplified in His raising Lazarus from death leaving no doubt as to His role in saving us from the wages of sin once we surrender to Him.

PREPARATION DAY: The hope in the second coming is real because Jesus gave His life for ours (Mark 10:45). In Earthly transactions we never buy our items and leave them in the store. Similarly Jesus is coming back to get us because He paid for us in full through His perfect sacrifice. Let us look towards that day with gladness for we have a hope in the risen Christ.
